In the state of Pennsylvania firefighters use only blue warning lights to alert other drivers that they are responding to an emergency. Those blue lights are a referred to as “Courtesy Lights” meaning you are not required by law to yield the way to a vehicle displaying a blue light, however, we strongly encourage you to please yield the right of way to these vehicles so they can get to the fire stations and respond with the fire vehicles to the emergency as quickly as possible. Vehicles outfitted with Red lights and sirens are used by Chief Officers and those vehicles are considered by the state to be emergency vehicles and YOU MUST YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY to these vehicles.
