Local Runner to Dedicate Leg of Run to Local First Responder

Great American Relay Logo with the words Great American Relay, 2021, and an image of the US.

Our Diner owner, Stephanie Schofield of Collier Township, is an avid runner and will be participating in the Great American Relay this Sunday, September 19, 2021. The Great American Relay is a run stretching from Boston, Massachusetts, to Santa Monica, California, and began on September 11th to commemorate the 20-year anniversary of 9/11 and will be dedicated to the military and first responders.

Stephanie has decided to dedicate her leg of the relay to Rich Kocian of McDonald, Pa. Rich was a retired dispatcher for the North Fayette Police Department, a paramedic with Rescue West EMS, and a lifetime member of the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department. Unfortunately, Rich passed away on July 7, 2021. Stephanie said, “Rich exemplified what it meant to be a first responder, always putting others before himself. The best way I can honor Rich, and all of the military and first responders who make daily sacrifices for our safety is to dedicate my leg of the relay to him. Rich, I thank you for your service to our community.”

Stephanie’s leg begins at the North Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department Station #2 (8036 Steubenville Pike) at 8:00am and ends at the Hanover Township (Washington County) Volunteer Fire Department (9 Starck Drive, Burgettstown, PA). Stephanie has invited others to run with her or donate, link to the Great American Relay is here.
