The Board of Supervisors appointed staff from the Department of Community Development, two Planning Commission members, and several Township residents, developers, and property owners to serve on the Zoning Ordinance Update Steering Committee.
The Steering Committee met monthly, a mix of in-person and Zoom meetings, from June 2020 through February 2021, to discuss various key issues, topic areas, etc. Edits, revisions, changes, and additions were made to the draft ordinance throughout this planning process and as discussed at various meetings with the Steering Committee and Township staff. The draft ordinance was then reviewed by the Planning Commission and Allegheny County, and a public hearing was held to collect feedback from the community.
On May 11, 2021, the Board of Supervisors adopted Ordinance No. 477, and enacted a new comprehensive zoning ordinance and zoning map. This ordinance replaces the zoning regulations which were initially adopted in 2004.
