Sidewalk Maintenance Program

North Fayette Township prides itself on being a premier suburban community with safe, and well-maintained sidewalks. An important part of this is replacing sidewalk slabs that are deteriorating or pads that have shifted causing tripping hazards. To ensure that our sidewalk system is well-maintained, and to improve walkability and pedestrian amenities throughout the Township, the Board of Supervisors has directed staff to establish an annual inspection program.

Due to the size of the Township, inspections will be conducted on a rotating annual basis based on the Township’s three Transportation Service Areas (TSA). One area will be inspected each year allowing for all sidewalks within the Township to be inspected over a three-year period. The inspections this year will be occurring in the Southern TSA district. This district consists of the part of the Township south of North Branch Road and west of Oakdale Road and includes neighborhoods such as Pointe West and The Preserves. A map of the TSA districts can be found here.

The Township Engineer will be conducting the inspections. Residents may see representatives of the Township Engineer completing reviews in their neighborhood. Defective slabs will be marked with white spray paint and repair notices will be sent out to the property owners later this summer. Sidewalk repairs are the responsibility of the abutting property owner. To assist property owners who may not wish to make their own arrangements, the Township will have a qualified contractor available who can perform the work should the property owner wish to pay the Township to make the repairs.

Another important aspect of sidewalk maintenance is ensuring that your sidewalk is free of obstructions. Bushes should be neatly trimmed and not extend over the sidewalk. Any plants, limbs, or other obstructions that extend over the sidewalk are unsafe and not permitted. Please do your part to help keep our sidewalks safe and beautiful for all residents to enjoy!
