General Sanitation Guidelines
- Trash and Recycling pick up is Monday through Friday, beginning at 5 a.m.
- There is no trash and recycling pickup on the following holidays: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Pick up during the holiday weeks will then be one day later for the remainder of that week.
- All material must be placed at the curb before 5 a.m.
- All garbage must be bagged, weighing less than 40 pounds.
- Items containing Freon must have the Freon removed by a certified technician and properly tagged.
- Liquid paint can be mixed with kitty litter, sawdust, or other absorbent material and placed in a double plastic bag and set out with the regular trash. The empty cans must be left open to dry and the lids left off for pick up. They are not recyclable. Liquid paint will not be picked up.
- Plate glass must be broken and boxed. Each box shall be 40 pounds or less.
- Trash and Recycling should be placed at the curb no more than 24 hours prior to the scheduled collection time.
- Individuals that cannot place their garbage at the curb because of medical necessity should call the County Hauling at 724-929-7694 extension 2 to make arrangements for pick-up. Proof of medical condition will be required and resident must live alone or have spouse or roommate with a medical condition as well.
- The following items are not accepted: Ashes from fireplaces or wood burning stoves, building materials/roofing/flooring, concrete, dirt, sod, stone, car parts, tires, asphalt, railroad ties, landscape ties, liquid paint, animal carcasses, large pianos/organs, cast iron tubs, propane tanks, chain link fence rolls, car batteries, oil, gasoline, anti-freeze and other similar vehicle fluids, brick, block, tree and shrub stumps, items determined to require special handling, and those items excluded by landfill.
- All gas powered items must have the gas and oil drained. The gas cap and oil plug must be removed.
- Empty containers must be removed from the curb within 24 hours of pick up.
- To throw away an old garbage can, please tape a sign to it stating "Throw Away".
