September 9, 2017, 10:00 AM @ Allegheny Cemetery in Lawrenceville
Field Trip to the Allegheny Cemetery in Lawrenceville. The Allegheny Cemetery is a Historic Landmark and non-profit organization founded in 1844 for the benefit of the public. One of the oldest and largest cemeteries in the country with over 300 acres and 15 miles of paved roads, Allegheny Cemetery's rural landscape, thriving tree canopy, and abundant wildlife created the feel of an urban oasis. Over 133,000 members of Pittsburgh's families are now resting in these consecrated acres, including over 12,000 veterans from every American conflict, prominent philanthropists, politicians, entertainers, sport stars, composers, artists, and more. Join us for a group tour of the cemetery in its best season of autumn foliage, led by Cemetery Superintendent Roger Galbraith. Meet at 9:00 am at the Library for transportation arrangements or you can meet at the entrance to the Cemetery. Deadline is Sept. 7th. RSVP to Western Allegheny Historical Society at firstname.lastname@example.org.
